If you search back through history, the most prolific figures, past and present, have one thing in common. They were dedicated to their mission and their morning rituals.
It’s the rituals that allowed them to thrive. When we repeatedly commit to a series of actions, we preserve our mental energy for the important and unexpected stuff.
Instead of burning through mental energy trying to find matching socks at 6am.
We’ll talk more about the morning Victory Rituals soon, but a prequel to your morning routine is connection and community.
We’re just designed to need it. To chat. To embrace. To hug.
The holidays can be fantastic and exciting and trying, and the need for connection is great.
The intention this week is connection.
Maybe it’s a slow dance, a phone call, or a hand written letter, but somewhere there is someone who wants to connect with you.
Hugs are great too. There’s really cool data on hugs.
When we hug, the “cuddle hormone” oxytocin is released, which makes us feel awesome. Oxytocin promotes feelings of devotion, trust, and bonding, according to psychologists.
The hormones also support your physical health and may help lower blood pressure, among tons of other benefits.
Dr. Mercola says, “A 10-second hug a day can significantly improve your health.”
In a crowd of non-huggers? Get out in the community. Go to church. Take a yoga class. You’ll definitely find a hugger in the room.
